Why is a mirror installed in the overhead bins? I asked the cabin crew at Singapore Airlines when I was a passenger. This was her answer.
Having worked in business development for Komy Mirror since 2003, I had looked forward to seeing mirrors installed on the world's largest passenger plane, the A380, for over 6 years. The A380 began its inauguration flight in 2007 at Singapore Airlines, but I didn’t take my first flight on an A380 until August 2009. I was very curious to learn how airlines and passengers were using our mirrors in the years since the inauguration flight.
While I was looking for my seat on the upper deck, I confirmed that the mirrors were correctly installed, providing coverage for the entire bin, which gave me assurance that the mirror is useful for passengers as well as the cabin crew. I sat in my seat, and the plane took off.
I was eager to know if the mirror is really helping the passenger and cabin crew, I asked one of cabin crew why there was a mirror installed in the overhead bin, as if I knew nothing.
The cabin crew responded that the mirror is for passengers to be able to see all over the bin, without missing a corner. "The A380 provides good service! " she commented proudly.
I then disclosed to her that I was working at the company that makes the mirrors, and was so pleased that our product is supporting your services.
How useful is our product?

A380 Overhead Stowage Bin |
“We had long thought that mirrors in the overhead bin would be useful, so we were very pleased when the mirrors were installed. It is so convenient to avoid leaving articles behind, and to speed up security checks. We are no longer stepping on the passenger seat to peek in the bin.” I had an honest opinion from a front line person that had reaffirmed our conviction of contributing to the passengers and cabin attendants.
We will continue to expand our product’s application for convenience and security in future.
